In most cases, yes—either you or someone you authorize needs to provide access to the unit and confirm what’s being kept and what’s going. Once we’ve walked through everything and have clear instructions, some clients stay, and others leave and come back when we’re done. If you’re out of town, we can discuss options with you and the facility to see what’s possible.

Most storage facilities have their own process for cutting locks or granting access when a key is lost. You’ll usually need to work with the office or manager first so the unit can be opened or a new lock installed. Once access is squared away, we can step in to handle the cleanout. We remove most non-hazardous items typically found in storage, such as furniture, boxes, totes, clothing, household goods, small appliances, décor, and general junk. We can also clear out old business inventory from units being used for commercial storage. If you have chemicals, fuel, paint, or anything you’re unsure about, ask us in advance so we can let you know what we can and can’t take.

That’s up to you. Some clients mark everything to go and just want the unit emptied. Others want help sorting so they can pull out a few “keep” items while we remove the rest. We can create simple categories like “keep,” “donate,” and “dispose” so you’re not making a thousand tiny decisions but still stay in control of what happens to your stuff.

Whenever possible, we try to donate usable items and recycle what we can. Furniture, household goods, and clothing may go to local organizations; metal and cardboard may be recycled where facilities allow. Items that are broken, damaged, or not suitable for reuse are disposed of properly. If you have specific donation preferences, let us know when we schedule your cleanout.

Pricing is based mainly on how much space your items take in our truck, how heavy they are, and how much labor is involved in loading everything. A small, lightly filled unit will cost less than a packed, floor-to-ceiling locker of heavy items. We can often give a ballpark from photos, then confirm the price on-site before we start so there are no surprises.

We’ll carefully unload, sort according to your instructions, and remove what you no longer want so you can finally see what’s there—or close the unit for good and stop paying monthly fees on stuff you don’t need.

We regularly work in storage facilities and are familiar with gate codes, office hours, and loading rules. Tell us the facility name, unit location, and any instructions they’ve given you. We’ll follow their policies for access, parking, and elevator or hallway use so the job goes smoothly for everyone involved.
